Operation Green Streets

Operation Green Streets is Elmira Downtown's partnership with the City of Elmira and local businesses to offer community groups the chance to adopt a public flower bed - making a colorful and lasting difference in downtown.

All materials, including plants, tools and mulch, are provided. Volunteers plant seedlings in the downtown district and adoptive groups commit to maintaining their own little piece of downtown for at least a year. The Operation Green Streets program grew out of the desire to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment in downtown. Operation Green Streets is funded through a Community Development Block Grant and the Department of Public Works assists in preparing existing beds for planting and in maintenance.
