In the Army Now: Life of a Chemung County Solider The Civil War impacted Americans from all walks of life. With the military rendezvous and Confederate Prison Camp in Elmira, the war was a daily presence in the lives of Chemung County residents. While soliders fought on the battlefield, their families back home worked to maintain a sense of normalcy and support the war effort. Local businesses profited from supplying the army. Even today, the legacy of the war remains.
Opening Saturday, January 21, the Chemung County Historical Society presents "In the Army Now: Life of a Chemung County Soldier" The first of four exhibits at the museum in commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War. In the Army Now is funded through a grant from the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.
